Something for Pascha...

In discovering Serious Eats I came across this. It sounds like so much fun. I can't wait to make it for Pascha :D And Serious Eats is keeping me entertained between calls today. 2 hours left!!
I've also been struggling though "Mother Gavrilia: The Ascetic of Love" the past few days but as it's not my first time reading it it's slow going, especially when there's more interesting stuff on the internet.

  1. Mexican Style Red Greek Lentil Soup
    ½ Cup Olive Oil
    1/3 Cup of Balsamic Vinegar
    2 Quarts Water
    1 Cup chopped Celery
    1 Cup sliced Carrots
    1 Cup chopped Onions
    1 Gallon can of Tomatoes
    2 cloves of Garlic
    1 teaspoon Oregano
    1 teaspoon Cumin
    1 lb. of Lentils
    Salt & Pepper to taste
1-2 Teaspoons of a moderately hot Hot Sauce, to taste*
    * Preferably Pickapeppa Red (not Pickapeppa Brown!).

Put everything but the Oregano and Cumin into a pot and bring to a boil. Simmer an hour. Add Oregano & Cumin. Simmer 30 minutes more or until lentils are sufficiently soft. Serve.

  5. Let's say that I know a few people from Suchow, and that you have the same dark chestnut hair, olive skin color, and even the same high cheek bones as they have. Also, there are a few Orthodox Christains in the Suchow-Shanghai area. Certainly wishful thinking on my part; however, if you have friends or relatives from that area of the world, we could have some mutual friends.

  7. Ok I'll admit my profile pic isn't that great, but my hair is red, and my skin is pale lol. My mom is from Sweden and my dad is French-Canadian...I'll have to change the picture...

  8. The new photo does change your race. The other photo did remind me of a couple of my Chinese friends. Suchow is the city in China renowned for its beautiful women, and you had that Suchow look about you in the other photo. There aren't many Chinese in Eastern Orthodoxy, and I make it a point to let them know they are welcomed as coreligionists.

    Regards
