On God's Love

Here's a quote that I really like from this post:

F: I was just writing a passage saying that God is not angry or wrathful towards us, but that it will feel like wrath towards those who resist him. Just like fire gives us light and warmth, fire also burns you. But it’s the same fire. I was trying to express this to an editor, and she said, “But if it’s God’s love, how could it possibly not feel good?” The example came to me like this—these special needs kids—what is the disorder—reactive affection disorder? You show affection, and it’s frightening, and they try to pull away. Intimacy is painful to them. And you just try to hold them and love them and you think that will work. In some cases kids get older and start attacking the parents. It’s good to know that love is not enough.

Hand pulled noodles and hard cider

The two things I've been reading about this afternoon and really wanna try in the next couple of months (after I'm done moving) are hand-pulled noodles and hard cider. One apparently much more difficult than the other. I can't wait to try these! I'm gonna go to a brewing supply store tomorrow evening to get some equipment for the cider. I'll be moving this weekend and next so don't know if I'll have time to do it before next month though. I can make free booze!! w00t!!! Lol XD

Semlor

Ok now I have to make some of these! I mean, being half-Swedish and all... I'll see if I have time though, I have to go to the gym tomorrow morning, then maybe to the doctor tomorrow afternoon, if not I'm making tonkotsu ramen. Then Sunday after church I'm digging boxes out/packing/moving some stuff over to my new apartment. So I guess it'll have to wait till next weekend. I'm so eager to make these, it's been years since I've had them. And maybe it'll be a start to my long-forgotten idea of doing once-a-month Swedish-themed food blogging... I'll have to put a reminder in my calendar.

Cooking Issues

In listening to this episode of Cooking Issues (a really interesting cooking radio show) I've decided that I want to make duck confit, do some water-cooler low-temp cooking (a.k.a. sous vide) and creme anglaise.

Tonkotsu ramen and quietness

So life has been pretty quiet lately, aside from visiting family for Christmas and all. I'm finally gonna get around to making this tonkotsu ramen this weekend, and I have to start moving stuff to my new apartment this month as I'm officially out as of the first of Feb. I'll have two new roommates going to school, Carlo and Kris, both of which are going to move in at some indeterminate point in the future. I'm looking forward to moving to a new place :) Setting it up and buying some used furniture from the Salvation Army and all. Steph and Christelle have decided to go without a new roommate to replace me, as Cri wants the extra closet space and Steph can afford it cause of his raise.
